mission

ALRP’s mission is to help people living with HIV/AIDS maintain or improve their health by resolving their legal issues. We accomplish this mission through either direct representation of clients by one of our 13 staff attorneys or by careful placement of clients with one of ALRP’s 550 volunteer Panel attorneys.

Every year, we help thousands of clients stay in their homes, gain access to healthcare, become legal citizens, improve their finances, and connect to other community services. By addressing their legal problems, ALRP seeks to improve our clients’ health and well-being.

Founded in 1983, ALRP has handled over 95,000 civil legal matters for our clients over the last 40 years. Our efforts help our clients:

  • Avoid unlawful evictions – fulfilling their basic need for shelter
  • Protect their assets, and their children’s future
  • Reduce their stress and improve their health
  • Assure their personal dignity
  • Protect and regain lost jobs and insurance/medical benefits

Our goals are to provide legal counsel and representation on often-complex legal matters for a community of individuals often least able to afford it, and to leverage the resources of the private bar for the public good.

We serve seven Bay Area counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Marin, Solano and Sonoma).

Last year, ALRP helped more than 1,500 people with HIV/AIDS in over 2,600 legal matters, successfully leveraged almost $1 million in donated legal services, and provided 8 MCLE Trainings to 65 attorneys and 88 Outreach Presentations for clients, service providers and community partners.
