Advocating for Disabled Tenants: Fair Housing Laws as a Tool for Eviction Defense
Safe, accessible housing is a fundamental need for people living with disabilities, yet it is disproportionately out of reach for those most in need. This training will cover Federal and local California fair housing protections for disabled tenants, with a focus on how these laws overlap with eviction protections for tenants with disabilities.
Through the lens of eviction prevention and unlawful detainer defense, this training will cover:
- Reasonable accommodations and modifications
- Discrimination as a defense to Unlawful Detainer actions
- How these laws can be used to expand access to housing for people with disabilities and reduce the negative impacts of housing instability
