This 90-minute training introduces foundational California estate planning principles for attorneys, with practical guidance on wills, revocable living trusts, durable powers of attorney, advance health care directives, and disposition of remains. Participants will explore capacity, undue influence, titling, and trust funding basics, along with common planning scenarios and design choices. The program emphasizes cultural competency and trauma-informed approaches when working with HIV+ and LGBTQ+ clients, including chosen family dynamics. It also addresses common pitfalls, ethics and risk management concerns, and provides a brief overview of probate, conservatorship, and trust administration in California.
