Joe Creitz

ALRP’s Board, staff, and volunteers remember and honor Joseph A. Creitz. Joe passed away on December 5, 2024, and a memorial, organized by former ALRP Board member Michelle Roberts, was held earlier this month at UC Law SF.

Joe earned his JD from Hastings College of Law (now UC Law SF) and, with Lisa Serebin, founded Creitz & Serebin, one of the few law firms in the nation handling all aspects of health, disability, and pension benefits claims. Joe and his firm have provided hundreds of hours of pro bono assistance to ALRP clients and have been a loyal sponsor of our Annual Reception since 2013. Lisa served on our Board from 2015 to 2017.

Joe had a well-deserved reputation as a formidable advocate for employee rights, and Best Lawyers Magazine named him “Lawyer of the Year in California” in the practice area of ERISA Litigation on multiple occasions. Along with donating his time and expertise to ALRP clients, he served on the Board of KALW radio, was Professor of Practice and the Director of the Legal Research & Writing and Moot Court programs at UC Law, and served as crew leader of Sutro Stewards, which works to conserve the Mount Sutro habitat.
