Honoring Curtis’s Final Wishes
July 15, 2025
Last fall, “Curtis” reached out to ALRP after learning from his doctors that his health had worsened and he only had about six months to live. As a long-time client, Curtis knew he could count on ALRP to help him with his end-of-life planning, given this distressing news.
Supervising Staff Attorney Emily Heinzen quickly jumped to action, working closely with Curtis to review his end-of-life wishes. At first, Curtis struggled to discuss his plans while still grappling with his prognosis, and scheduling time to meet was challenging due to his deteriorating health. Emily supported Curtis throughout this process, visiting him in his home and at the hospital to prepare his end-of-life documents, including his trust, pour over will, California Advance Health Care Directive, power of attorney, and other ancillary documents.

Sadly, Curtis recently passed away. But thanks to Emily’s help, Curtis’s affairs were in order when he died and his final wishes will be honored.
