Helping Danielle Stay Housed Through Hardship

“Danielle” turned to ALRP for help when her landlord attempted to evict her and her terminally ill husband, “Victor,” accusing them of nuisance behaviors, including cluttering. Danielle was doing her best to care for Victor, who was on home hospice, while also managing their household. Sadly, Victor’s condition worsened, and he passed away during the early stages of the case.

Staff Attorneys Kai Shintani and Ryan Orkisz stepped in to defend Danielle, challenging the eviction and successfully arguing that the alleged nuisances were tied to Victor’s illness. Thanks to their advocacy, the case was resolved on the day of the Mandatory Settlement Conference and Danielle now remains safely in her home.
