Fair Housing Victory for Terrence
September 22, 2026
When “Terrence” received an eviction notice accusing him of causing excessive noise in his unit, he feared losing his home. Because Terrence uses a wheelchair, he occasionally bumped into walls and caused aging floorboards to creak as he moved through his apartment. Rather than providing a legally required accommodation for his disability, Terrence’s landlord tried to evict him.
ALRP’s Director of Housing & Litigation, Jeff Dulgar, and Housing Paralegal Kylah Stroh quickly stepped in to fight for Terrence’s rights. By asserting protections under Fair Housing law, they challenged the eviction and were able to secure a settlement that allowed Terrence to remain housed while addressing the landlord’s concerns.

As part of the agreement, Terrence moved to a lower-floor unit, with the landlord covering all relocation costs and installing sound proofing to reduce noise issues going forward. Most importantly, Terrence no longer has to fear losing his housing because of circumstances beyond his control. He can continue to live independently in a home where his rights are respected and protected.
