“I honestly believe that I could have been on the street, homeless.”

“I know that I have rights, and no-one’s going to step on them, because I have the AIDS Legal Referral Panel to back me up.”
Catah is one of many long-term survivors who have been coming to ALRP since the 1990s. Over the years, we’ve represented him as he was facing eviction; provided legal advice as the ownership of his apartment building changed hands; supported him with hurdles to getting a government-issued ID; assisted him with legacy planning; and made sure his access to Social Security Disability Insurance, Medi-Cal, and his rental subsidy didn’t lapse throughout multiple difficult life changes.
Hear more from Catah about the difference ALRP has made in his life:
In 2025, 38% of our clients were age 60 or older, 43% first came to ALRP over ten years ago, and 46% had had five or more legal matters handled by ALRP over the years.
Your year-end donation will help make sure we can support our clients in 2026 as they face the varied challenges of aging with HIV in an increasingly unaffordable city.
