Thank you for joining us!
October 29, 2024

We couldn't have done it without you.
We are so grateful for the 250+ supporters who joined us last Thursday, October 24, to celebrate ALRP’s 41st Anniversary Annual Reception. We hope you enjoyed the moving remarks from our honorees and special guests as well as the food, drink, and company.
With your generosity, and the generosity of our event sponsors, we raised over $260,000—an all-time record—to support ALRP’s vital services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Thank you!

Fund-a-Need:
Law Clerk Scholarships
An internship at ALRP provides invaluable career development, mentorship, and frontline experience for aspiring public interest attorneys. Many ALRP staff attorneys got their own start as ALRP Law Clerks.
We were pleased to debut this video and raise over $9,000 to support ALRP’s law clerk program through our Fund-a-Need last Thursday. We didn’t quite hit our $12,000 goal, but it’s not too late to support ALRP and the next generation of public attorneys.
Our Honorees
Thank you for helping us celebrate our three honorees this year!

Bruce Vilanch
Inaugural Bill Hirsh Award
Bruce Vilanch, two-time Emmy Award winner, was honored for his extraordinary record of volunteering his voice, time, and talent in support of organizations serving people living with HIV/AIDS and the LGBT community, and for unflinchingly and hilariously challenging and lampooning homophobia and political extremism.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee
Clint Hockenberry Leadership Award
A social worker by profession and a principled advocate for justice, Congresswoman Barbara Lee was first elected in 1998 to represent California’s 9th Congressional District. Congresswoman Lee was honored for her lifelong dedication to achieving an AIDS-free generation, including authoring or co-authoring every major piece of federal HIV/AIDS legislation since she was elected.

Michael Rooney
Attorney of the Year
Michael Rooney joined ALRP as a Panel Attorney in 2007 and has accepted 36 referrals since that time, often going above and beyond to support clients on multiple matters. In 2023, he contributed over 200 hours of pro bono time to ALRP, including work on two affirmative housing cases for ALRP clients.
Thank you, too, to Whoopi Goldberg and Jane Lynch for helping us recognize Bruce Vilanch from afar!
