A Win for Client, Panel Attorney & ALRP
March 1, 2015
Lewis, Feinberg, Lee, Renaker & Jackson, P.C. recently chalked up a substantial win for an ALRP client. Because the confidential settlement includes $60,000 in attorney’s fees, ALRP received a much-appreciated 10% tithe from Lewis Feinberg.
Lewis Feinberg specializes in representing workers, retirees, and people with disabilities. In this case, they obtained a settlement of an Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) claim on behalf of their ALRP client.
The majority of ALRP clients have incomes of less than $20,000 per year, and they receive legal services from our Panel attorneys free of charge (and of course all services provided by ALRP staff attorneys are free to clients). Clients with higher incomes pay a sliding scale fee if they are referred to Panel attorneys. When they join the ALRP Panel, volunteer attorneys agree to abide by ALRP’s sliding scale Fee Protocol, and to tithe back 10% of any fees or awards to ALRP to help support services for other clients. Since Lewis Feinberg was awarded attorney’s fees, the firm tithed $6,000 to ALRP.
Tithes make up a very small portion of the ALRP budget, since so many of our more than 1,500 clients each year have very low incomes. Most tithes to ALRP come from attorney’s fees awarded by the court.
Our congratulations to Daniel Feinberg of Lewis Feinberg on a well-fought case! We’re grateful to your service to ALRP clients.
