25th Anniversary of ADA
February 17, 2015
2015 celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), an act that prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in employment, State and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation.
The ADA will turn 25 on July 26, 2015. Such a big milestone in our nation’s history deserves a celebration that centers on the San Francisco Bay Area, the birthplace of disability advocacy.
The Mayor’s Office on Disability recently announced the ADA 25 Bay Area website, the first website of its kind, where disability advocacy and service agencies around the Bay Area are collaborating to increase awareness and introduce visitors to local upcoming events commemorating the 25th anniversary of the ADA in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Be sure to watch the website for details of the Mayor’s Office on Disability’s big celebration at San Francisco City Hall in early July to kick off ADA Month.
