- Overview: While legal avenues available to undocumented immigrants have narrowed significantly, asylum remains a viable option for many LGBTQ immigrants. At the same time, LGBTQ communities must overcome a unique set of challenges in order to gain this life-changing legal status. As survivors of complex trauma both abroad and in the U.S., it is critical that legal representatives provide culturally competent and sensitive representation. In this presentation attorneys from Oasis Legal Services will provide an overview of LGBTQ communities, issues, and definitions, and a breakdown of how to overcome common obstacles to winning asylum for LGBTQ immigrants.
This is a free training open to all attorneys, paralegals, law students, and those interested in the legal field. We hope to see you there!
