Join ALRP for our major donor reception! May 25 in the Castro
This hosted reception will take place in the outdoor patio area, to increase comfort levels about gathering. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be provided.
Space for this private gathering is limited. Please RSVP to Bill@ALRP.org and know that gifts of $500 or more are vital to our work this year.
This year, we are so pleased to honor one of own: Laura Maechtlen, Esq. with the James C. Hormel Philanthropy Award. Laura’s commitment to community service is legendary. Generous, humble, hardworking, and loyal -- Laura’s easy-going nature has always made her a valued ALRP family member. This year, ALRP is delighted to shine a spotlight on Laura’s years of work to support ALRP’s mission of improving the health of people living with HIV by resolving their legal issues. Laura has assisted ALRP in just about every way possible, serving as the Pro Bono contact for her firm, as an ALRP Board member (including serving as Board Secretary) and as an incredibly generous donor.
It would be lovely to think that 40 years into the HIV/AIDS epidemic, we could say that the fight is over, but it is not. The health of people living with HIV/AIDS is still at risk. Now nearing our 40th year of service to the Bay Area HIV community, ALRP’s remains a trusted resource for compassionate legal expertise.
In the current environment, the stakes could not be higher. More than ever before, our clients need a good attorney on their side. ALRP helps people living with HIV resolve legal issues that threaten their health, housing, financial stability, and access to care. Last year alone, we handled 2,224 legal matters for 1,338 clients.
ALRP has been hard at work over the past year, meeting the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS in seven Bay Area counties:
- We take on landlord/tenant cases to help prevent homelessness
- We handle immigration cases and seek to prevent discrimination and persecution
- We navigate insurance disputes to safeguard access to healthcare
- We advocate for people who rely on disability benefits to survive
- We draft Wills and durable powers of attorney to help individuals retain their dignity and ensure their decisions will be carried out
You can play a direct and vital role in our success this year, by becoming a supporter. In an era of uncertain government funding, your support of ALRP will allow our critical legal services to continue for people living with HIV/AIDS in the San Francisco Bay Area.
We hope you will join us. Please take a moment to renew your support today or email Bill Hirsh directly at bill@alrp.org to RSVP.
