ALRP Mourns Passing of Gary Encinas

ALRP is sad to report that ALRP co-founder and supporter Gary Encinas passed away on May 23rd at his Oakland home after a long battle with cancer. Gary was a part of the formation of ALRP and served on our first Board of Directors. A long-time supporter and a generous and kind man, Gary served as Chief Counsel of PG&E for many years.

Gary was born in Madera California on June 8, 1949. He attended UC Berkeley from 1967-1970 and graduated from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, with a B.S. in Anthropology. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1975 and then returned to the Bay Area, where he soon joined the legal departments of PG&E Company and PG&E Corporation. He retired as the corporation’s Chief Counsel, Corporate Law Department. In his personal life, he and his husband James W. Wright traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.

In addition to his husband, Gary leaves behind his mother Arduina Smith, stepfather Bill Smith, and half-brother Charles A. Smith. His father, Angelo M. Encinas, predeceased him in 2011.

A memorial service is scheduled for June 28, 2015, from 1–3 p.m. at the Bellevue Club, 525 Bellevue Avenue, Oakland. Donations in memory of Gary may be made to the Horizons Foundation at www.horizonsfoundation.org.
