ALRP – A Deserving Beneficiary of CY PRES Awards

The AIDS Legal Referral Panel (ALRP) is a well established non-profit that provides critically-needed legal services to people living with HIV/AIDS. Since 1983, ALRP has handled over 95,000 legal matters for low-income people living with HIV/AIDS, helping clients stay in their homes, secure insurance benefits, gain access to medical care, obtain legal status for HIV+ immigrants, fight employment discrimination, and restore personal dignity.

More people are living with HIV/AIDS than ever before and the legal needs of ALRP’s clients have changed dramatically over time. ALRP has consistently partnered with the private bar to provide the legal community’s caring response to AIDS.

  • Great Return-on-Investment:  ALRP is a well-managed, fiscally responsible non-profit that leverages over $1 million in donated legal services through its Panel of over 550 volunteer attorneys, in addition to the provision of direct legal representation by its 13 staff attorneys.
  • Broad Client-Base:  ALRP clients are overwhelmingly low-income and come from traditionally under-served or underrepresented populations including people of color, women and the LGBT community.
  • Directed Awards: Cy Pres awards directed to ALRP can support specific program areas such as housing, employment, insurance, immigration, and community education.

ALRP receives funding through the State Bar’s Legal Services Trust Fund and its programs are reviewed favorably by the State Bar each year.
